There are various golfing bodies and organisations who are able to provide detailed information about events, news, rules, latest  results and tournaments. The County Card is a national scheme which gives preferential green fee rates at many clubs throughout  the country. The SCLGA offers the County Card for free to all members of affiliated Sussex clubs where you're able to use it at local  Sussex clubs. Click here for further details.

England Golf

The English Golf Union merged with the English Women’s Golf Association in January 2012 to form England Golf, the governing body for all amateur golf in England. England Golf is one of the largest sports governing bodies in England looking after the interests of over 1,900 golf clubs and 770,000 club members. Responsible for the training of the country’s top amateur golfers, England Golf also organises all the major English amateur championships. England Golf works to actively encourage new golfers and increase the continued interest and participation in golf through its golf development initiative ‘Get into Golf and ‘Girls Golf Rocks’. England Golf also maintains a uniform system of handicapping, administering and applying the Rules approved by the Council of National Golf Unions.

Get into Golf

The national campaign to get more people golfing, Get Into Golf is run by England Golf and supported by Sport England National Lottery Funding, and is delivered locally by golf clubs and their PGA professionals. A 3 year partnership with Sky Sports to promote Get Into Golf, it aims to bring 500,000 new or lapsed golfers into the game - make sure your club gets involved. Girls Golf Rocks

Now in it’s 3rd year with Sussex, this program aims to introduce young girls into golf various clubs in the County taking part which include Chichester, Cooden Beach, Cottesmore, Golf at Goodwood, Rustington and Seaford. Last year Dale Hill GC had a very successful program with 30 girls joining the scheme and 7 now progressing to full junior membership. Sussex County Golf

Sussex County Golf | The men’s equivalent of the SCLGA is the Sussex County Golf (SCG). Their office is based at the Dyke Golf Club, their Secretary is Emma Whitlock and Daren Francis is Assistant Secretary. The County Office and Committee are responsible for:

• Supporting the affiliated members and golf clubs in Sussex
• Providing good value for the affiliation fee which are collected every year from club members
• Providing advice on handicapping, rules and other matters concerning amateur golf
• Organising County Championships, tournaments and inter-county matches
• Administering the County Coaching schemes from grass roots up to elite level
• Administering the County Card Scheme

R & A

The Royal and Ancient (R&A) seeks to engage in and support activities that are undertaken for the benefit of golf. The R&A  organises The Open Championship, golf's oldest Major, along with a number of other amateur and junior events. The R&A assumes  responsibility for the administration of the Rules of Golf with the consent of 143 organisations from the amateur and professional  game, and on behalf of over 30 million golfers in 126 countries. The Rules of Golf have been developed over more than 250 years,  wherever the game is played around the world, the same laws apply. They don’t only cover the playing Rules, but Etiquette and the  specifications and regulations that relate to clubs and balls as well.

CONGU

A golf handicap allows players of all levels of golfing ability to compete against each other on a fair and equal basis - thus a handicap system is essential to the popularity and prosperity of the amateur game. The System (CONGU) provides a player with a golf handicap that reflects their playing ability relative to that of all other players. CONGU handicaps are only allocated to players who are members of clubs or organisations use the Unified Handicapping System (UHS). They are obligated to administer the UHS in a tightly controlled and uniform way to ensure that the members’ golf handicaps are maintained with consistency and uniformity. A golf handicap allows players of all levels, men and women, to compete on an equal basis wherever they play.

Ladies European Tour

Ladies European Tour (LET) is Europe's leading women’s professional golf tour and formed as the WPGA in 1978. Over the last 35 years the tour has developed and in 2013 LET ran 25 golf tournaments in 19 different countries. The LET professional players represent 34 countries and their game is broadcast in 240 million homes in 80 countries.
