We run Junior, Senior and Women's 1st and 2nd teams. Details of all the teams are shown below. If you are interested on taking part in any of the team events, please contact the relevant Team Manager.
The 2025 Player Development Plan has seen a change of personnel with
Sara Whittaker now leading the programme. The coaching sessions are now led by Jack Budgen, who has had a long and successful affiliation with Sussex County Golf as a player and coach (East Sussex National).
Various presentations on individual fitness, sports psychology along with short game coaching sessions are to be included this season. There is always at least 9 holes of golf in various formats on PDP (player development programme) days. 1st and 2nd team selection will take coaching and general play into consideration along with the players performance at the County Championships. Our aim is to take players with real potential who’s handicap is dropping rapidly whilst supporting current county players. Our long term goal is to increase the number of ladies into the County structure whilst keeping the county excelling competitively. .
Our County 1st Team is announced each season after the County Championships. Whilst we play a number of friendly matches, the highlight of the season is County Match Week each June when we play Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey. The winner of County Match Week goes on to represent the region in the National Final in September. A development programme is in place for the 1st Team squad.
Our 2nd Team play a number of friendly matches, and compete against Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey for the Stovold Trophy every year. Sussex won the Trophy in 2015 and 2016. The team is selected from players attending the Player Development programme, constant reviews of handicaps and performance at county championships and other events. We also aim to develop our young talent by including our Elite Juniors in the team. Sara Whittaker (Willingdon) is our 2nd Team Manager.
We have a number of development programmes for the girls and details are found on our Junior Coaching Pages. Karen Parks is responsible for working with the Juniors and organises the Junior Events with her committee. She is always keen to hear from any youngsters who are looking for a way into golf or for information about golf in their area. One of the highlights of the Junior Program is County Match Week which takes place every year in August. If you'd like to know more, please contact Karen Parks.
Our Seniors play friendly (but competitive!) matches against Berkshire, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire, and our Friendly Match Captain is Deborah James (Dyke). We also play in a Seniors Competitive League, which is all singles matchplay (50+ handicap 8 or below) against Surrey, Kent, Essex and Middlesex. Sussex won the Mulligan Larsen Bowl from 2015 - 2019 and again in 2024. Our Seniors Team Organiser is Sara Whittaker (Willingdon). The Inter-Counties Strokeplay Championship takes place annually in September and is generally selected from the Seniors Competitive side and the County President is Team Captain. Each year there is also a Veterans match (aged 60+) against Hampshire.
