Seniors Scratch League V Hampshire:  Match Report
Wednesday 4th September 2024, Willingdon GC

Congratulations to the Sussex Senior team who finished off the season with another emphatic win. This time over newcomers to the league Hampshire at Willingdon Golf Club. Thanks to all who looked after us at Willingdon so well and for the super post match meal.

As the teams arrived the sun shone however the black clouds threatened on numerous occasions. All the players managed to stay dry and the course looked and played magnificently  throughout the afternoon.All of the matches were keenly contested and played in great spirit, with Karen Sykes (Worthing) closing out a victory on the 14th and Aileen Greenfield (Pyecombe) on the 18th. Clarissa Bushell (West Sussex) finished on 16 and Paula Carver (Worthing) on the 14th. Katherine Russell (RAF) was clinical in her match, closing out a victory on the 12th. Sara Whittaker (Willingdon) won her match on the 17th to deliver the overall victory for Sussex 6 - 0.

This win meant a clean sweep and no lost matches this year. The Mulligan Larsen Trophy is finally coming back to Sussex. Sussex last won this in 2019 and captain Sara would like to thank all the players who have represented the senior team this year including Rachelle Black (Willingdon) and Tracy Poulsom (RAF) in the Mulligan Larsen League and to all the county officials who have travelled to support the team at their matches.

As one magnificent season draws to a close the team are already ‘chomping at the bit’ to get started on retaining the trophy!!
