West Hove was the venue for the second session of the Player Development Programme (PDP)
Sunday 24th November
Players were selected from the open invitation trials day that took place last month at East Brighton Golf Club. The weather forecast proved to be severe with high winds which closed a number of local courses thus it was necessary to put plan B into action.
Ryan Fenwick started the session with a presentation on how vital the short game is and provided some amazing statistical examples. An indoor chipping and putting session followed with players stepping forward into the fire!! After only a few minutes and a little filming, analysis and corrective measures were put in place and the outcome was incredible. The players worked together as extra eyes to assist each other in observations to eradicate what felt right but was actually incorrect! Players all went away motivated to work on what they had been observing and trying to achieve. In order to be the best, Sussex have to be ‘brilliant at the basics’.
Ryan was ably assisted throughout the session by new coach Jack Budgen. Ryan wrapped up the session and provided a lovely tribute to Jane Covey with whom he has worked with for 3 years since the PDP was initiated. Their success seeing the team win County Match Week In 2023 and progressing to the National finals.
Jane Covey followed with a very fitting presentation for Ryan and highlighted how well they had worked together. Ryan has been involved with many teams throughout Sussex whether it was in his playing days or in his coaching days. He has been involved in junior girls & boys, mens & ladies teams. I don’t think there is a team Ryan has not been involved in. SCLGA would like to thank Ryan for all his knowledge, expertise and the hours he has given to individuals, teams and the support at whatever level was needed. Ryan is a true professional and a leader in his field. We wish him all the very best for the future in everything that he does.
