Player Development Programme (PDP) - Session 3
The third session of the Player Development Programme (PDP) was held at East Sussex National (ESN) on Sunday 23 February.
The Ladies met for coffee and an initial presentation with the plan and objectives for the day led by new coach Jack Budgen.
The players split into two groups with Group 1 at the range focussing on the longer game with coach Jack undertaking 1-2-1 time with each player to direct focus on specific areas. The players also met John for Physical golf screening which will enable individuals to understand their own strengths and weaknesses in order to plan a programme for ongoing improvement.
Group 2 were put to the test with their short game and asked to play the simple shot!!!! A par 18 chip and putt was the order for the session. Some exceptional scrambling skills were seen across the groups with 2 players finishing under 1 under par. The competitive element was most apparent as players were under pressure to carry their score from the short game event through to the afternoon 9 holes game.
It was great to see the 5 invited juniors arrive early to warm up on the range and spend time chipping and putting before heading out with the ladies to put in some very respectable scores. One of the most important elements of the PDP is to develop a stronger/closer partnership with Karen Parks (Junior Director) to aid a smooth pathway transition for the juniors to 2nd/1st team.
In the afternoon, the players headed out onto the East Course which was fortunately open despite all the dreadful weather!!! It was a little muddy but all made it around the 9 holes carrying their clubs.
From the feedback received it would appear all enjoyed the day although most would have to clean shoes/clubs etc on arrival home.
Thanks to ESN, coach Jack Budgen, the players in the PDP and the fab juniors who keep us all on our toes.
